A Values-Led Organisation: What Guides Brave Mind and Why It Matters
Brave Mind is proud to be a values-led organisation. Our values are not just words on a page - they guide how we show up every day, how we design and deliver our programmes, how we work with partners, and how we support young people and the communities around them.
At the heart of everything we do is a clear purpose.
Our vision is a world where every young person feels confident understanding, managing and talking openly about their mental health.
Our mission is to use sport to reduce stigma, build mental health awareness and empower young people and their communities to drive lasting change.
Sport gives us a powerful way to reach young people in places they trust. Our values ensure that when we do, we do it with care, credibility and humanity.
Our Values
Bravery
It takes courage to talk about mental health — especially in sporting environments where toughness and resilience are often misunderstood. We believe bravery is not about going it alone, but about showing up, asking for help and supporting others to do the same. Whether a young person is facing their own challenges or an adult is worried about someone they care about, Brave Mind stands alongside them, encouraging honest conversations and advocating for change.
Integrity
Integrity sits at the core of our work. We are honest, transparent and accountable in everything we do. From evidence-based, psychologist-led programmes to clear impact measurement and safeguarding, we work hard to earn trust and keep it. When people engage with Brave Mind, they know they are in safe, credible and reliable hands.
Togetherness
Mental health is not something anyone should have to navigate alone. We believe in the power of community and connection, within teams, clubs, families and wider sporting environments. By bringing young people, parents, carers, teachers, coaches and partners together, we help create supportive networks where people feel held, understood and stronger together.
Authenticity
We value realness and honesty. Young people tell us they want spaces where they can be themselves without judgement, pressure or pretence. We meet people as they are, listen to their stories and create opportunities for open, genuine conversations. By being authentic in how we work, we empower others to do the same.
Empathy
Compassion runs through everything we do. We listen carefully, respond thoughtfully and always aim to create environments where people feel valued and understood. Empathy shapes how we design our programmes, how we train adults around young people, and how we build psychologically safe sporting spaces.
Why Being Values-Led Matters
Our values ensure our work stays human as we grow. They guide how we use sport to reduce stigma, how we co-design programmes with young people, and how we build long-term change rather than quick fixes. As we work towards a whole-sport approach to youth mental health, these values help ensure our impact is not only effective — but meaningful.
Together, guided by our values, we are changing the game for youth mental health.
