Changing the Game: A New Chapter for Brave Mind

Brave Mind is proud to launch a new chapter in our journey today.  We present a clearer, stronger and more ambitious ‘us’, shaped by everything we’ve learned alongside young people, psychologists, partners and sporting communities.

At a time when young people face growing mental health pressures - and too often struggle to access timely, meaningful support - we are leaning into what we know works:

  • early intervention, before problems escalate

  • practical psychoeducation that builds understanding and confidence

  • evidence-based programmes delivered by Sports Psychologists

  • the power of sport as a trusted, motivating environment for change

This new chapter reflects our commitment to meeting young people where they are and using sport as a positive force for connection, confidence and belonging.

Why Now?

Brave Mind Founder, Si Trower, explains why this moment matters:

“Over the past two years, Brave Mind has grown quickly, delivering psychologist-led, evidence-based programmes to hundreds of young people and adults across schools, colleges, universities and sports clubs. With that growth has come important learning, the need to pause and reflect and where we were going to go next.

“We listened closely to young people, sports and charity partners and psychologists. We looked honestly at what was working, what needed strengthening and what it would take to create long-term, meaningful impact at scale.”

What’s New About Brave Mind

As we move into this next phase, we are sharpening our focus and expanding our ambition while staying true to what makes our work effective:

  • Young people aged 16–24 are now firmly at the heart of our work

  • We are moving beyond rugby into all sport, while staying rooted in our values

  • All programmes continue to be co-designed with young people to ensure relevance, inclusion and real-world impact

  • We are shifting from standalone interventions to system change, embedding mental health into everyday sporting practice

This evolution matters because young people thrive when support is consistent, credible and shaped by their lived experience.

From Strong Programmes to Lasting Change

Our kit bag programmes remain central to our approach from Kick-Off Kit Bags that build mental health literacy to tailored programmes addressing anxiety, exam stress, emotional regulation, return from injury and suicide prevention.

Every programme is:

  • guided by evidence

  • designed and delivered by Sports Psychologists and Mental Health Specialists

  • co-created with young people

We are investing in clearer data and impact measurement, consistent delivery frameworks, enhanced training and safeguarding and deeper partnerships across sport and education. This ensures higher-quality programmes today and sustainable impact tomorrow.
