Our Psychologists
Our programmes are built with young people and developed in collaboration with Sports & Clinical Psychologists to ensure they’re relevant, inclusive, and impactful. Every Brave Mind session is delivered in person by trained Sport Psychologists for youth groups, or experienced mental health trainers for adults - bringing expert, empathetic support to every setting.
Behind every session is a dedicated professional passionate about making sport a safe and supportive space for mental wellbeing. Learn more about the people delivering our work.
Mike Roberts
Mike is a Chartered and HCPC‑registered Sport & Exercise Psychologist working across professional sport, the business sector, and the NHS. A former professional cricketer with Hampshire CCC, it was during this time that he discovered his passion for performance psychology and began his
training journey.
Mike now supports individuals and consults with teams — including Gloucester Rugby, England Rugby, QPR FC, and Essex County Cricket — to enhance both performance and wellbeing. Drawing on his experience in high‑pressure environments, he delivers practical, human‑centred psychological support. He is also the Lead Psychologist for Brave Mind, a role in which he helps shape the charity’s psychological strategy and support its impact across all levels of rugby and beyond.
Outside of work, Mike enjoys spending time with his wife Ana and their young son Aaron, playing golf with friends, and attending live music events.

Dr Dan Martin
Dan is a Chartered and HCPC‑registered Sport & Exercise Psychologist and a Lecturer in Sport & Exercise Psychology
at St Mary’s University. He previously lectured at Newcastle University and has held roles at Durham University and the University of Winchester.
His work combines teaching, research, and applied practice. Dan’s research focuses on high‑performance environments in elite sport, exploring how these systems shape professional experiences, self‑care, wellbeing, professional identity, and organisational support. He also has a strong interest in Family Systems Theory and qualitative methods to understand the complex dynamics within sport and performance settings.
Alongside his academic work, Dan provides psychology support to Goalball UK’s High‑Performance Pathway and consults with teams, organisations, and individual performers. A lifelong rugby fan, he is also a Trustee of Brave Mind, supporting the charity’s mission to improve mental health across the rugby community.
Dalma Szecsi
Dalma is a Sport & Exercise Psychologist in Training, working towards HCPC registration via the BPS Stage 2 pathway. Originally from Budapest, she completed her BA in Psychology at ELTE before moving to the UK to study for an MSc in Applied Sport Psychology at the University of Winchester.
She has supported athletes from recreational to elite level across sports such as basketball, wheelchair basketball, tennis, football, rugby, BMX, and ice hockey. Dalma provides a safe, supportive space for athletes to explore their experiences and develop flexible, effective coping skills.
Her eight years as a basketball player, in an environment focused heavily on performance rather than wellbeing, shape her practice today. It’s also why she is passionate about being part of Brave Mind — creating the kind of open, supportive environment she would have valued as a young athlete.
Gilly Thomas
Gilly is a Chartered and HCPC‑registered Sport & Exercise Psychologist, currently working at a Premier League football club. She focuses on promoting positive mental health and wellbeing, supporting parents, players, and coaches both on and off the pitch.
With experience across elite and community sport, Gilly has seen first‑hand how creating safe spaces for athletes to speak openly fosters connection, confidence, and growth. She is proud to be part of the Brave Mind team and is passionate about raising awareness of mental health in sport
and beyond.
Outside of work, Gilly values sport in her own life as both a physical and mental release. The social connection, support,
and shared challenges she experiences through sport are central to her self‑care — and inspire the environments she champions professionally.
